Tank Aces prelim, an AAR

Postby BruceBoyer » Wed Jul 18, 2012 7:47 pm

Fought a prelim multiplayer Tank aces fight on the 16th. Capts Lapin and Boyer ran US tanks, Lapin had two jumbos, two 76s and two M4s Veteras; Boyer ran Trained, one Jumbo, 4 x76s and two M4s 750 ea as the Germans under Hauptmans Von Slaughter assisted by Block and Abe all ran 500 points of RT, 2 Panthers and 4 PZ IVs ea.
The Germans pushed at us concentrating Abe and Von S on Lapin as Block took my forces on. This put Lapin's vets in their cross hairs but at range, behind a RR embankment with two Jumbos, it was not going to be EZ. The US hit first in the Encounter, two burnin PZ IVs. The Germans hit back and advanced. Jumbos did their job. Block was forced to duel at a disadvantage as the Germans learned what Dir Fire smoke does to a gropup of tanks! My forces hit Block's as my Ace.Lt Kowalski flamed a Panther and a PZ IV in one volley! Lapin flamed two PZ IVs! Von S. took out one of Lapin's 76s then Abe got the other, Lapin's force was no longer able to put the hurt on the Germans!
I was down a 76 and another bogged, my TRV bogged trying to free it, bogged as well! The Germans came on as Von S turned to engage my platoon, closing in. Von S closed up and hit my Jumbo with a Panther, one flamed Jumbo!
Abe pushed up his Panthers his PZ IVs staying back. A big wiff for the US and the Germans came on.
They got one of Lapins jumbos and one of my 76s and bailed Sgt. Kneivil's M4.
It's the final turn, Lapin charged out and flanked Abe's force, flames a Panther! Sgt Kneivel and crew remount their M4, drive out of the mud field, rolls over the fence, into the next muddy field, lines up on Von S' Panther's flank, flames it and a PZIV! Kowallski races back and flames Von S' other PzIV from the flank, missed the Panther! 4 kills for Kowalski! The TRV unbogs, moves and tries but fails to extract the other 76 that had failed to unbog on it's own!
The Germans are stunned, but recover. Block's lone Panther misses two point blank shots at Sgt. Kneivel; Von S' last tank takes out Kowalski ( who is uninjured and escapes into a field) while Abe kills Lapin's last tanks.
Final Score Tank Aces Block, Abe and Lapin and my Lt. Kowalski all lost their tanks. Kowalski is top ace with 4 kills. Germans had the most tanks left; Block and Von S one each Abe with 4 PZ IVs. US had most kills!
A real exciting slug fest, a good preview of Tank Ace battles to come.

Last night Joseph was telling me that US platoons can only have 1 Jumbo per platoon. Brad had 2 Jumbos in his unit. Was that legal in Tank Aces?

You don't have platoons of tanks in Tank Aces, each tank is considered an independent team.

The army build restriction is you have to use tanks from either HQ, Combat or Weapon platoons, but if I remember correctly, it doesn't say you are limited to the Force Organization limitation i.e. 1x HQ, 2x Combat Platoons, etc.

I don't have BGG in front of me right now, but if he has the option of just purchasing 1x Jumbo from a combat platoon, he can take 2x since he just buys it twice. Also, if the HQ slot allows him to buy a single Jumbo, he can just buy two HQs of 1x Jumbo each.

Tank Aces allows a US force from BG&G The US Tank list allows a Jumbo upgrade one per plt and one per HQ so if you field an HQ of two Shermans, upgrade the 2IC to a Jumbo and a Plt of three, upgrade one to a Jumbo you have two jumbos. Unless you want to forgoyour 76s necessitates running trained tanks. The points do work. There is much on the forums as to this tactic combining it with E8s and have a slow moving hard to kill unit. High volume of fire can well overwhelm it. Gun tank can target the 76 armed tanks but Jumbo rule means they take the weakest AT hit first.
