Questions about Dixit

Postby Game Empire Chuck » Mon Jan 24, 2011 3:41 pm

Hey Gang,
Last night I played Dixit with my family and my brother's family. Of course, my brother immediately tried to "break the game" by using clues that he thought only his wife and/or kids would get. Some clues were the names of their family friends. While this plan backfired in a spectacular fashion, my question is this: In Dixit can the story teller use clues that are proper names of non-celebrity people (liker personal friends), or foreign words knowing that only one other person speaks that foreign language? I can't see anything in the rules to stops this, but it sounds like it could be abused. What do you think?

Some people make house rules against using things that are unique to their relationship to another player. I don't. In fact, I'll tell new players to use any trick in their clue they think might help. As you noted when we discussed this in person, such tricks rarely work anyway. I think the surreal nature of the card art largely obviates any need for a specific rule.
